Despite the unemployment rate, there is some indication that some employees are not going to tolerate the continuation of low wages. You will recall that employers were able to leverage employees, causing them to accept low wages and non-existent benefits because of the high unemployment rate. Employers pick and choose amongst their workers and, as a result, many workers had to tolerate, and still have to tolerate, subsistent wages and no benefits. That seems to be changing. This year, employees have steadily resigned from jobs which pay low or minimum wages. As the workers leave, the employers will be forced to raise salaries in order to entice the employees back into the workforce. The largest numbers of resignations appear to be in trade, transportation, utilities, and professional and business services. People who leave believe they can get a better job somewhere else.
Hopefully, employees will respond and wages will start to increase. It seems that it is impossible to live on a wage of $9.00, or even $11.00 an hour.
Remember, if you are exploited because of your wages, you need to give us a call. There is never any obligation.
